Beach season officially opened in The Hague

The Hague - The Hague beach season has opened. Easter traditionally marks the kickoff of the beach season, the moment when all the beach tents, pavilions and beach clubs are rebuilt and visitors come to (re)discover The Hague's beaches. On a bright Saturday, beach artist Gerard ten Broek (Beach Land Art) created a unique work of art on the sand for the occasion, as part of 125 years of Escher.

Gerard ten Broek (The Hague, 1955) is a "land art artist" who, like Escher, enjoys playing with optical illusions, contrasts and creating perspective on a flat surface. Where Escher did this with ink on paper, Gerard applies large etchings in the sand. Especially for the opening of the beach season, he created a temporary artwork near the tide line at the pier head in Scheveningen, as part of the 125th anniversary of Escher in The Hague.

Season full of experiences
The Easter weekend is also the start of the new calendar of events in Scheveningen. This year's calendar is bursting with great experiences, beach parties and club nights within the theme A Night Out. It will be a variety of music, ballet, cabaret, burlesque, movies, open mic nights and more entertainment (such as musical Aïda) in the restaurants, theaters, cinema and casino. This makes an evening in Scheveningen a special experience.

Festivals on the coast
The first festivals will also start again soon. Scheveningen is once again the scene for numerous events such as the monthly Salt Market on the Noord Boulevard, the North Sea Regatta, the International Ocean Race, the largest herring party in the world and Vlaggetjesdag, the Parade, the sunset concerts of Festival Classique, the World Sailing Championships, international fireworks festival Horizon, the music festivals Live on the Beach, Beatstad and Het Grootste Zomerfeest and much more. For more information, check out the full events calendar.

Attractions and museums
Even without an events calendar, there is plenty to do on The Hague coast. At SEA LIFE you can stand eye-to-eye with sharks, piranhas, stingrays and seahorses and with a combi-ticket you have direct access to Madurodam. At LEGOLAND, discover with the whole family how small blocks can transform into the greatest works of art. A visit to Muzee Scheveningen shows the history of the old fishing village and the versatile applications of seaweed in the temporary exhibition WEED. Or get carried away at Beelden aan Zee by the works of British artist Henry Moore, who became world famous for his unique, figurative visual language.

Kijkduin
Kijkduin is just as ready for the new beach season. New Kijkduin offers endless shopping opportunities with 1,500 square meters of fashion stores. In addition, you can enjoy culinary delights with the tastiest, fresh produce and artisanal dishes at the food court the Daily Taste. People looking for peace and quiet also get their money's worth in Kijkduin, for example by visiting the impressive Hemels Gewelf or the Sand Motor, an oasis of tranquility for walkers.

The beach is looking out for you
Like other years, starting next week the monumental sunglasses will once again be on display on the beach at Scheveningen. Under the banner Scheveningen looks out at you, these giant blue glasses will visit various beaches in The Hague so visitors can put themselves in the spotlight.
