During the International Day of Education on 24 January different events and activities will celebrate the power of international education. An essential tool for creating a better, safer, and more just world together.
The Hague Academy for International Law Winter Course (6–24 January): The Winter Courses, launched in 2019, are a three-week programme on public and private international law, modelled after the Academy’s renowned Summer Courses. Designed for those with prior knowledge, they include a General Course, Special Courses, and guest lectures by leading experts. Taught in English or French, the courses attract participants from over 100 nationalities, many of whom become leaders in international law. Lectures are published in the prestigious Collected Courses series, now comprising with over 410 volumes.
KUNO Winter Course (21–22 January): A two-day introduction to humanitarian aid at The Hague Humanity Hub. This course combines practical knowledge, debates, and workshops for humanitarian professionals. Speakers include Thea Hilhorst, Paul van den Berg, Rolf Wijnstra, Pia Zeinoun, Henrieke Hommes and Expertise Centre Humanitarian Communication.
International Day of Education Conversation – Perspectives from Three Nations (25 January): Organized by EuroClio in The Hague but accessible online to all, this event invites participants to join in a meaningful conversation with the National Council for History Education, EuroClio and educators from South Africa, Germany and the United States. The 57th annual THIMUN Conference The Hague Conference (27–31 January): The Hague International Model United Nations is one of the world's largest and most prestigious Model United Nations events, held annually at the World Forum Convention Centre. This four-day simulation of the United Nations brings together over 3000 secondary school students from more than 200 different schools in 100 different countries around the world. Participants engage in debates, draft resolutions, and collaborate on tackling real-world issues such as climate change, human rights, and global security. The conference fosters diplomatic skills, cultural understanding, and leadership in young minds, promoting the values of international cooperation. This year’s theme, "Impact of AI on Humanity," explores the intersection of technology and global challenges. THIMUN is an integral part of The Hague’s identity as the International City of Peace and Justice. The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, will be present at the official opening of the 57th edition of THIMUN on 28 January at 16.00.
