The Hague – From timeless Dutch masters to groundbreaking modern art, The Hague offers visitors an unforgettable cultural journey. Tourists can immerse themselves in its vibrant museums, where each iconic master is a reason in itself to visit this cultural city by the sea.

Through the lens of giant binoculars, five masters are put in the spotlight. From this month onwards, several major museums in The Hague invite national and international visitors alike to experience the works of art by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Mondrian, M.C. Escher and the Panorama Mesdag with their own eyes.

“These are The Hague's ‘Big 5’ – internationally renowned masters whose works you must see at least once in your life. We proudly present the unique art experience The Hague has to offer in a playful, innovative way,” says Sander Hanenberg of The Hague & Partners’ marketing agency.

Five masters, one city

With the Mauritshuis, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Escher in The Palace and Museum Panorama Mesdag, The Hague has a world-class art offering. In these museums, you can see famous works such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, Rembrandt's Anatomy lesson by Dr Nicolaes Tulp, Mondrian's Victory Boogiewoogie, Escher’s mind-bending Belvedere and the sweeping Panorama of Scheveningen by Mesdag.

Sander continues: “Five masters, one city; that is the motto of this new campaign. These works are on permanent display, so throughout the year there are at least five good reasons to visit The Hague.”

Binoculars

In the striking campaign images, someone holds a large pair of binoculars and looks straight towards the viewer. In the lenses of the binoculars, you can see one of the five masters. These images, made by creative agency The Projects, were generated using artificial intelligence.

Sander: “We want to raise awareness of The Hague as a world-class, cultural destination for day-visitors, at only a 45-minutes’ train ride from the centre of Amsterdam. We want to inspire foreign tourist to look beyond the capital because in The Hague you can completely immerse yourself in art and culture without the big crowds.”

The Hague is easy to reach from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, direct trains take only 30 minutes. By train, it is a 3 to 4 hour journey from London St Pancras with only one change at Rotterdam.
