Next Global Ocean Energy Event (ICOE 2026) to be held in The Hague
29 oktober 2024
The Hague, the Netherlands, 17 October 2024 - The International Energy Agency's Ocean Energy Systems (IEA-OES) announced that the next edition of the Global Ocean Energy event, ICOE 2026, will take place in The Hague, Netherlands. The announcement was made at this year's event, held September 17-19 in Melbourne, Australia. This energy conference, especially focused on wave, tidal, ocean currents, OTEC and salinity gradient technologies, will be organized by the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA), in collaboration with partners Campus@Sea, The Hague & Partners, Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP), TU Delft, IRO and NedZero.
“The Netherlands, with its rich maritime history and expertise in water management, is a global leader in offshore energy innovation. Positioned at the North Sea, we host pioneering projects in wave, tidal, ocean currents, OTEC and salinity gradient technologies. We look forward to showcasing these innovations to global experts and exploring new collaborations.” says Peter Scheijgrond, CEO of Bluespring and Chairman of EWA.
ICOE is a biennial conference that plays a key role in advancing ocean energies worldwide. It brings together leading professionals, researchers, policymakers, and supply chain experts from across the globe to share the latest research, technologies, and best practices. This global event unites experts from offshore wind, oil and gas, aquaculture, and ocean energy sectors.
“The Hague is an international hub for energy and innovation, with a vibrant ecosystem for collaboration, including our Offshore Test Site just 12 km offshore. We are excited to host ICOE 2026 and demonstrate how our city supports innovative ideas that make a global impact.” Philip Mulder, Senior Policy Officer Impact Economy, Municipality of The Hague.
The conference will include technical sessions, panel discussions, and workshops focused on the latest trends and challenges in the offshore industry, alongside an exhibition showcasing cutting-edge technologies. In 2025 more information about the location, dates and topics will be communicated.

About IEA-OES The International Energy Agency's Ocean Energy Systems
(IEA-OES) is an intergovernmental collaboration that works to advance the implementation of sustainable ocean energy technologies. Through international cooperation and information exchange, IEA-OES promotes the environmental, social, and economic benefits of ocean energy.
About Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA)
EWA promotes the generation and application of energy from water and is dedicated to advocating the common interests of its members. EWA represents members working on hydropower, wave and tidal energy, OTEC, and energy from the difference between fresh and salt water. We have strategic partnerships with Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and NedZero.
NWP is a strong network of Dutch water organisations, working worldwide on co-creating future-proof solutions and catalysing global water impact.
IRO is the Association of Dutch Suppliers in the Offshore Industry.
NedZero is the Dutch wind energy association, together with 300 members they are making the Dutch energy system CO2-free.
About Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)
TU Delft is a global leading university in engineering and technology. At TU Delft the Marine Renewable Energies Lab spearheads ocean renewables research. In addition is has established the TU Delft Ocean Energy Platform, to bring together TU Delft researchers on diverse ocean energy technologies, including tidal, wave, ocean thermal, aquatic biomass, and salinity gradient energy.
Campus@Sea is a field lab in the port of Scheveningen, the Hague, dedicated to fostering innovation for the sustainable, multi-use of the North Sea. By bringing together businesses, researchers, governments, and civil society, Campus@Sea accelerates offshore innovations across five domains: renewable offshore energy, sustainable food from the sea, marine nature development, safety and security at sea, and water sports. Through testing, validation, and knowledge sharing, Campus@Sea drives solutions that contribute to societal and economic impacts on the North Sea and beyond.
