Mikado Impact: Scaling Social Innovation from Turkey to The Hague

25 September 2025

With nearly two decades of impact work in Turkey, Mikado Impact is now leveraging The Hague’s international ecosystem to scale sustainable development and inclusive innovation across Europe.

Building a legacy of impact

Mikado Impact, founded in Turkey, has long been at the forefront of sustainable development and social innovation. As the oldest certified B Corp in Europe, and led by Ashoka Fellow Serra Titiz, the social enterprise has partnered with over 50 corporations to co-design inclusive, high-impact programs.

“Our energy comes from communities and changemakers who are reimagining systems to be more inclusive, resilient, and future-oriented,” says the Mikado team.

From youth leadership programs with multinationals to re-skilling initiatives for women, Mikado translates systemic challenges into tangible action. The organization also develops DEI toolkits, embeds measurement frameworks, and transfers proven social innovations like Mobile School and Embark into new contexts, ensuring their impact is not just inspiring, but scalable and accountable.

Why The Hague?

After 18 years of impact in Turkey, Mikado began looking to expand its reach across Europe. Their next step: The Hague.

“The Netherlands - and especially The Hague - was a natural choice,” they explain. “It’s a hub for international organizations, purpose-driven businesses, and social innovators.”

The Hague’s positioning as the international city of peace and justice aligns perfectly with Mikado’s mission. Since arriving, the organization has launched its Embark Project’s reverse mentorship model with Unilever Netherlands, and is now collaborating with Ben & Jerry’s and Inter IKEA Group to create inclusion pathways for newcomer youth.

“The Hague offers the right environment for scaling our models, connecting with global partners, and embedding ourselves in a community that values measurable social impact alongside business innovation.”

A Soft Landing with The Hague Business Agency

Mikado first connected with The Hague Business Agency during the ChangeNOW conference in Paris, where they pitched their Embark initiative. That connection led to tailored support that went far beyond logistics.

“The Hague Business Agency has been instrumental,” the team says. “They helped us navigate not only technical aspects of setting up our Dutch presence, but also connected us with valuable networks and potential partners.”

What stood out most was the personalized approach - a genuine effort to understand Mikado’s mission and connect them to organizations aligned with their work on inclusion and justice.

Scaling Embark Across Europe

Mikado sees its presence in The Hague as a launchpad for European expansion. The team’s ambition is to act as a bridge between local and global, scaling successful programs from Turkey into new countries, while continuing to co-create solutions with corporate and NGO partners.

“We’re actively looking for partners to enhance and expand our programming,” they explain. “The Hague’s ecosystem has already opened doors, and we’re excited to deepen that collaboration.”

Their Embark initiative, focused on reverse mentorship and youth leadership, is ready to be replicated across more regions and sectors. The Hague's international ecosystem - and its willingness to foster innovation for inclusion - is the ideal place to make that happen.
