Den Haag opent het voorjaar op koninklijke wijze met uitbreiding van themawandeling ‘Royal Tour’

The Hague opens spring in royal fashion with extension of themed walk ‘Royal Tour’

24 April 2025

The free themed ‘Royal Tour’ walk in The Hague has been expanded this month to include two new royal attractions. It is a gift to the public around the king's birthday and kicks off a regal spring in the court city.

Two new highlights have recently been added to the Royal Tour route complete with up-to-date audio clips. First, the new, changing showcase exhibition Royal Traditions in Pictures of the Royal Collections at Noordeinde 64.

It is currently dedicated to the age-old tradition of credentials. On display are special photographs, a ceremonial uniform of an aide to the King and a replica of George Washington's credential, among others.

Binnenhof

In addition, the Binnenhof Renovation Information Centre has been added to the route. In the visitor centre at Place 22, which is free to visit, you can dive into the 800-year history of the Binnenhof. You will find special objects from the buildings and archaeological excavations, such as replicas of the lion bones found.

For centuries, the Binnenhof was the domain of counts, countesses, princes and stadholders. Recently, it was revealed that the Binnenhof was already a gigantic complex in the 13th century; a court with royal architecture and an even greater ambition as an imperial palace. In the Information Centre, you will discover more about the three founders of the Binnenhof, Floris IV , Willem II and Floris V and their ambitious building plans. A story of power, struggle, status and ambition.

Royal adventure
The Royal Tour takes you on a royal adventure along iconic Hague highlights such as palaces, museums and sights at your own pace. The free ‘self-guided’ walk covers 20 places in the city centre, including Noordeinde Palace, the Mauritshuis, the Prince Willem V Gallery and the Palace Garden.

With video and audio fragments, the rich royal history comes to life in images and sound. So you can take a digital peek inside the Knights' Hall of the Binnenhof, or just stand among the horses in the Royal Stables.

The Royal Tour is over four kilometres long and takes about an hour. You can find the tour on denhaag.com and it can be followed using your smartphone.
