Smart and Stress-Free Travel to The Hague’s Beaches with ‘Van A naar Zee’

18 July 2025

Website provides 'live' insights into current travel conditions

With summer approaching, The Hague has launched a new platform to help beachgoers plan their journey more effectively. At vanAnaarZee.nl, visitors can find information on the smartest ways to reach the city’s 11-kilometre coastline – stretching from Scheveningen to Kijkduin.

The website vanAnaarZee.nl lists all travel options to The Hague’s beaches. Whether you’re coming by bike or (shared) scooter, taking public transport, or opting to park your car at the city’s edge (Park+Beach) and continue your journey affordably – the site offers real-time tips, alternative routes, and guidance on the best times to travel. Current travel information is also provided for visitors with reduced mobility.

Live Traffic Situation Monitoring

A key feature of the platform is VanAnaarZee-live, a spatial monitor that provides live images of the traffic situation en route to the beaches. Thanks to this digital map, visitors can plan their journey more wisely on busy days and avoid traffic jams. They can instantly see how much space is available on the roads, at the beach, and where cars, shared vehicles and bikes can be parked. Various webcams offer a live view of how busy the beaches are.

“We want to inform beachgoers in advance about the best way and time to reach our beaches. The Hague has 11 km of coastline. With ‘Van A naar Zee’, you can plan how to get to your favourite beach well ahead of time. There’s nothing better on a hot day than truly enjoying both your journey and your time at our beautiful beaches,” – Alderman Arjen Kapteijns

An Accessible and Welcoming Coast

The platform is part of the Coastal Action Plan by the Municipality of The Hague, in collaboration with The Hague & Partners. This initiative stems from the findings of the Coastal Zone Traveller Survey (2024) and the wishes of local businesses to provide better information to visitors regarding beach accessibility. The campaign ‘Check vanAnaarZee.nl before you leave’ will run throughout the summer of 2025.

“We’re very pleased with vanAnaarZee. It makes it easier for visitors to access our beautiful coastline. That’s a win for hospitality along The Hague’s coast – and for both entrepreneurs and residents. We’re glad that, as business owners, we can collaborate with the municipality and other coastal partners to continually improve accessibility,”
– Martin Wörsdörfer, Chair of the Scheveningen Beach Pavilion Owners Association

“With the ‘Van A naar Zee’ campaign, we aim to positively raise awareness among city visitors about the smart ways to travel to the beach. Especially on warm days, when we traditionally welcome large numbers of visitors, it’s all about accessibility and comfort,” – Sander Hanenberg, Head of Marketing & Customer Care, The Hague & Partners

About the Coastal Action Plan

The municipality, together with partners, residents and entrepreneurs, is committed to the Coastal Action Plan. The plan outlines numerous measures to prevent and address nuisance. These include initiatives around traffic, parking, noise disturbance, shared mobility, litter, wild camping and swimming safety. With these measures, The Hague’s coastline will remain a pleasant, safe and accessible place for everyone.
