The Hague – The Hague is proving popular this winter. The number of visits to the city centre in December 2025 increased by one million compared to the same month a year earlier. In addition, there was a significant rise in visitors coming from outside the city.
Major crowd-pullers such as the Royal Christmas Fair, SnowFest, the Great Christmas Circus The Hague and Cirque du Soleil helped Royal Winter contribute to the increase in visits to the city centre. The number of visits to Scheveningen also rose, with the annual Cool Event attracting 10 per cent more visitors last December than in 2024.
Recent pedestrian counts by Resono show that the city centre was visited almost 34 million times in December 2025. This is more than one million visits higher than in 2024, when there were just under 33 million visits – an increase of over three per cent.
Almost 40 per cent of these visits came from outside the municipality of The Hague, which is significantly higher than a year earlier, when the share was still around a quarter.
Visits to Scheveningen also increased slightly, by almost 1 per cent. One third of these visits came from outside the municipality, again representing a modest increase compared to the previous year.
Alderman for Economic Development, Saskia Bruines, is pleased with the results:
“These figures show that the Royal Winter programme is working. The cosy lights, enjoyable activities and warm atmosphere allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy The Hague even during the winter months. This is, of course, also good news for the city’s entrepreneurs and cultural institutions.”
Royal Winter is one of the seasonal campaigns carried out by the marketing agency The Hague & Partners, promoting The Hague as the cosiest winter destination with a diverse winter programme.
