The Hague to host 'European Cities in Placemaking' Event
Twelve European cities come together to discuss urban development and public space.
The event, held on 11-12 February 2025 at Amare, marks the conclusion of a two-year collaboration aimed at integrating placemaking into governance and city planning.
The participating cities
Bergen (Norway), Bradford (England), Budapest (Hungary), Cork (Ireland), Helsingborg (Sweden), Helsinki (Finland), Reggio Emilia (Italy), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Trenčín (Slovakia), Vila Nova de Famalicão (Portugal), Wrocław (Poland), and Vinnytsia (Ukraine) have worked on a shared roadmap to enhance urban policies and public spaces. The initiative highlights the importance of community engagement, balancing physical design with social activities, and ensuring long-term sustainability in placemaking efforts.
Placemaking strategies
City leaders and policymakers will engage in discussions on the systemic adoption of placemaking strategies. Sessions will cover governance reforms, inclusive urban planning, and the role of city-to-city collaboration in addressing challenges such as social divides and declining public trust. The event will also feature site visits showcasing The Hague’s local placemaking initiatives and discussions on best practices.

The event is organised by Placemaking Europe in collaboration with municipal representatives and international partners.
