Europe's ocean energy sector gathers in The Hague

International conference brings together industry, researchers and policymakers to accelerate energy from the sea

The Hague will welcome the international ocean energy community to Amare from 5 to 7 October, where ICOE-OEE 2026 will bring together companies, researchers, policymakers and investors working on technologies that harness the power of waves, tides and offshore currents. The event is one of Europe's leading conferences dedicated to renewable energy from the oceans.

Organised jointly by Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) and the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA), the event marks the first time the two organisations have combined their flagship conferences into a single international gathering.

As countries look to diversify renewable energy sources and strengthen energy security, ocean energy is increasingly recognised as a technology with long-term potential. While wind and solar have become well-established, energy generated from the sea offers a complementary source of predictable renewable power, particularly for coastal regions.

Bringing international expertise together

Over three days, delegates will explore the latest technological developments, financing opportunities and policy frameworks shaping the sector. The programme includes multiple conference tracks, an exhibition showcasing innovations from across Europe, networking events and meetings between industry leaders, governments and research organisations.

Participants will also visit Dutch ocean energy projects and companies during a dedicated technical site visit, providing an opportunity to experience the Netherlands' growing expertise in offshore renewable energy.

A fitting location

The Hague provides a natural setting for the international conference. As one of Europe's leading offshore energy hubs, the region combines expertise in offshore engineering, maritime innovation and energy transition. The nearby Port of Scheveningen and the wider South Holland region are home to companies, research institutes and public organisations working on offshore wind, hydrogen and emerging ocean energy technologies.

Hosting the conference also reflects the city's broader ambition to support international collaboration on sustainable energy solutions. By bringing together experts from across Europe and beyond, ICOE-OEE 2026 aims to accelerate innovation and strengthen partnerships needed to bring ocean energy technologies to commercial scale.

Future

Although ocean energy remains an emerging sector, investment and demonstration projects are expanding across Europe. Technologies capable of generating electricity from waves, tidal streams and other marine resources are expected to play an increasing role in achieving climate goals while strengthening resilient, low-carbon energy systems.

Port of Scheveningen

The Hague is currently developing a new long-term vision for the Port of Scheveningen. The plan aims to strengthen the harbour's role in the energy transition by creating more space for sustainable maritime industries, offshore renewable energy and innovation. Against that backdrop, hosting ICOE OEE 2026 offers an opportunity to exchange knowledge and connect local developments with international expertise.
